Chinese New Year: The Year of the Dragon!!!

We learned all about Chinese New Year. We had so much fun participating in the year of the dragon.  The students played dominoes (dominoes were created in China).  We made Chinese lanterns, dragons, flags, fireworks and streamers.  We, also, cleaned pennies and put them in red envelopes for good fortune/luck throughout the year.  To celebrate everything we learned about Chinese New Year, our class went on a parade around school with the goodies they made and chanted, “Gung Hay Fat Choy” ("Happy New Year"). On top of all this, we celebrated our 100thday of school on Tuesday.  We counted to 100, jumped through a hula hoop 100 times, and counted 100 fruit loops (and then ate them).  Yummy!  Then, we made a 100th day hat to wear around school.  Next week we will learn about Groundhogs Day and talk about the super bowl.

Winter Blast!!!

This week was our last week of learning about winter.  The students participated in a snow ball fight.  They had such a ball!  We went over our winter words by breaking the words down into syllables.  The students, also, made ABC patterns using snowflakes, snowmen, and gloves.  In addition to this, the students drew their own snowman and then used cube blocks to measure its length.  Furthermore, the students did a science experiment using water, pepper, cinnamon, and dish soap.  They drew a picture of what they saw after doing the experiment.  One other thing we did this week was talk about Martin Luther King, Jr.  We read a book about the dreams he had, and then the students drew a picture of their own dreams.  Next week, we will learn about Chinese New Year, as well as celebrate our 100th day of being in school (January 24).

Winter Wonderland

This week we learned all about winter.  The students made snowflake collages and tear art snowmen.  They, also, made snowflakes from coffee filters, as well as glued on the letters of their names on foam snowflakes.  They learned how to match lower and uppercase letters using snowmen (uppercase letters) and snowmen hats (lowercase letters). The students had a blast using Smartie Artie (smart board) to learn all about winter.  Smartie Artie taught them about winter animals, clothes to wear in winter, items to use in winter, and so much more.  Furthermore, they made pretend snow angels on the classroom carpet.  We even had time to sort buttons that snowmen wear.  Next week, we will continue to talk about winter, as well as learn about Martin Luther King, Jr.  We cannot wait for another fun-filled week!

First Two Days Back At Pre-K

These two days have been busy.  We got back into our routine, and saw all our friends.  It was fun to catch-up and play with them.  One thing we did was create a class book of something each student did during his/her break.  The students drew pictures to go along with what they did.  We, also, started to learn about winter.  The student’s pretended to ice skate using paper plates, and they played with ice and snow in the sensory table.  We used salt to make it look like ice and cotton balls to make it look like snow.  Next week, the class will continue to learn all about winter.  It will be a blast!  Take a look at the pictures below.
